In a candid and insightful interview, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the renowned academic administrator, biomedical engineer, and current host of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), opened up about a deeply personal aspect of her life – the breakup of her marriage.

Despite her significant success in the academic and professional realm, Prof. Kaufmann revealed that her failed marriage was one of her most significant life setbacks.

“When you get married, you’re expected to stay in it for life, right? So I consider the breakup of a marriage one of my biggest failures in life because I went in there for life, and life happened,” she shared during her conversation with Bola Ray on Starr Chart.

The interview shed light on her journey of healing and personal growth after the end of her marriage. She explained that, initially, the breakup had a profound impact on her, but over time, she has come to terms with it.

Prof. Kaufmann emphasized that life must go on, even in the face of adversity, and that time has helped her heal and move forward.

When asked if she still thinks about the breakup, Prof. Kaufmann’s response was one of resilience and wisdom. She said, “At the time it was happening, I did think about it, but now I’m well over it. Life must go on. Initially, it was difficult.”

Drawing from her own experience, Prof. Kaufmann offered valuable advice to young women who might be going through similar challenges in their marriages.

“First of all, you need to make wise choices and understand what you are getting yourself into before you even get in there. So know that human beings are not static, so if you get married based on what you see at that time, note that you’re going to be growing. The person may or may not grow, so find somebody you can grow with,” she wisely advised.

In sharing her personal story of resilience and growth, Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann inspires us to face our own challenges with strength and perseverance. Her journey from a marriage breakup to a position of wisdom and self-assurance is proof to the human spirit’s ability to overcome adversity and thrive.

Prof. Kaufmann’s story serves as a reminder that failures are not the end but rather opportunities for growth and transformation.
