In an eagerly awaited announcement, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has disclosed that the results for this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School are set to be released on Tuesday, December 14, 2023.
John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, assured stakeholders that the council is working diligently to meet the deadline and ensure a timely release of the results for Free Senior High School (SHS) students who sat for the international examination.
Examination Statistics
A staggering 447,204 candidates participated in the 2023 WASSCE for School, with a breakdown of 211,834 males and 235,370 females. This figure represents a notable 5.8% increase compared to the 2022 entry statistics, which stood at 422,883 candidates.
The examination was conducted across 975 public and private Senior High Schools, taking place at 834 designated examination centers.
Prospective candidates had the opportunity to choose from a comprehensive array of subjects, with a total of 60 options available. These subjects comprised four core subjects and 56 electives, providing students with a diverse range of academic choices to tailor their examinations according to their strengths and interests.
The international examination spanned 834 examination centers and concluded on September 26, 2023, marking the end of a challenging yet rewarding period for candidates who undertook the rigorous assessment.

- Visit the WAEC results checking portal at ghana.waecdirect.org
- When the page loads, ‘Enter your Index Number’.
- Select the Type of Examination (e.g. WASSCE).
- Select your Examination Year e.g. 2023
- Enter the Serial Number found on the Voucher you purchased.
- Enter the 12-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) on your Voucher e.g. 012388678910.
- Confirm your Index Number and Examination Year.
- Click on Submit
- Results will be displayed
- Screenshot or download results
