The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced that Basic Schools across the country will, for the first time, observe a mid-term break as part of the revised academic calendar. According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, the mid-term break will take place from Friday, 31st October to Monday, 3rd November 2025, as captured in the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar.
During these days, there will be no school sessions for both staff and students. The GES encourages all to use this period to rest, refresh, and re-energize for the remaining part of the term.

The GES has also released the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year for all Basic Schools — including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools (JHS). - Duration: September 2, 2025 – December 18, 2025 (15 weeks)
- Mid-Term Break: October 31 – November 3, 2025

Second Term
- Duration: January 8, 2026 – April 1, 2026 (12 weeks)

- Vacation: April 2 – April 20, 2026
The second term focuses on continued academic progression, with a short vacation in April to give room for rest before the final term.
Third Term
- Duration: April 21, 2026 – July 23, 2026 (13 weeks)

This term marks the conclusion of the school year and will prepare final-year students for their national exams.
Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)
The BECE for the 2025/2026 academic year is scheduled from May 4 to May 11, 2026. This period is crucial for Junior High School (JHS 3) students preparing to transition into Senior High School. GES advises students and parents to ensure adequate preparation during the lead-up to the exams.
Public Holidays and Observances
