The court, conscious of the students’ academic commitments, adjourned the case to Wednesday, September 27. This decision was made to enable the students to focus on their WASSCE exams and not be unduly burdened by legal proceedings during this critical time in their education.
Given the sensitivity of the case and the age of the students involved, the court made a thoughtful decision to hear the matter in the judge’s chamber. This ensured a private and secure environment for the parties involved, while also preserving the dignity of the students. The privacy measures taken were essential to safeguarding the well-being of the students and avoiding undue media attention.
During the court proceedings, the accused student did not admit to the charges of assault and causing harm that were leveled against him. Despite this, he has been released on bail pending further investigation and the continuation of the case. This decision, taken by the court, acknowledges the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, while ensuring the accused remains accountable for his actions.
As the case unfolds, the Housemaster of Quaque House, Ekow Holman, has been placed on interdiction pending investigations into the matter. Adisadel College authorities have taken a proactive approach, prioritizing the safety and well-being of their students and aiming to address any underlying issues that may have contributed to the incident.
The viral video at the center of this case has shocked and appalled many. It shows the two students involved, along with a few others, with one of them seemingly recording the incident. In the video, the accused student is seen gripping the victim’s neck tightly and repeatedly hitting his head against a metallic bed frame, resulting in visible swelling on the victim’s face. The disturbing footage has sparked widespread condemnation, leaving many questioning the behavior of the students involved.
Old Santaclausians, as alumni of Adisadel College are affectionately known, have expressed their surprise and concern over the students’ actions. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, an old boy of the school, shared his thoughts on Facebook, lamenting that such behavior is uncharacteristic of Adisadel College students. He emphasized that the school’s ode and anthem were held in high esteem during his time, guiding their behavior and fostering a sense of community and responsibility.
