In recent days, a flyer claiming to represent the official 2025/2026 Senior High School (SHS) academic calendar has been widely circulated across social media platforms and even published by some online news portals. The flyer suggested that the Ghana Education Service (GES) had completely reverted the academic calendar to the single-track system, a move which sparked heated debate among parents, students, and education stakeholders.

However, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially responded, describing the information as false and misleading. According to the Service, the purported calendar is fake and does not reflect the officially approved academic schedule for the upcoming academic year.

Official Clarification from GES

In a press release signed by Daniel Fenyi, Public Relations Officer of GES, the Service emphasized that the 2025/2026 SHS academic calendar has not been reverted entirely to the single-track system, contrary to the false reports.

“The academic calendar, released last week, makes clear provision for both single-track and double-track schools,” the statement read.

GES further stressed the importance of transparent and honest communication, assuring the public that accurate information will always be shared through its official channels.

Key Dates for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

The officially approved calendar indicates that the academic year will commence on:

  • Saturday, 18th October 2025 – All first-year SHS students are expected to report to school.

The academic year is scheduled to end as follows:

  • 21st August 2026 – For single-track schools
  • 4th September 2026 – For double-track schools

This distinction reaffirms GES’s position that the double-track system is still operational for schools that require it due to population and infrastructure considerations.

Why the Confusion?

The confusion arose after a flyer, purportedly from GES, suggested a full return to the single-track system. The flyer was quickly picked up by several news outlets and bloggers, giving it an air of credibility.

However, this is not the first time GES has had to deal with the spread of fake academic calendars. In previous years, similar incidents have caused panic among parents and students who rely heavily on such information for planning.

GES’s Call to the Public

GES has advised parents, students, and the general public to ignore the fake reports and depend solely on official statements released by the Service. The institution also urged bloggers and media houses to verify information before publication to avoid misleading the public.

Final Word

The 2025/2026 SHS academic calendar remains unchanged in its structure: both single-track and double-track systems will be in effect depending on the school category. First-year students officially report on 18th October 2025, while the academic year closes on 21st August 2026 for single-track schools and 4th September 2026 for double-track schools.

For accurate updates regarding the GES academic calendar, school reopening dates, and SHS schedules, the public is advised to follow official GES platforms and disregard unverified information circulating online.
