The devastating news of James Lutterodt’s untimely passing has left his father, Philip Dogbeda Lutterodt, shattered and struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss. James, a student at Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco), gained fame for his exceptional performance in the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz competition, capturing the admiration of many.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi News, Mr. Lutterodt expressed the immense difficulty he faced in grappling with the situation. James passed away in the early hours of Monday morning at a specialized hospital in Tema after a brief illness, despite relentless efforts to save his life.
The grieving father revealed that he first noticed something was amiss when James returned home on vacation in April 2023. Promptly recognizing the need for medical attention, the family embarked on a series of exhaustive tests to determine the cause of his illness. However, despite their unwavering efforts, James tragically succumbed to his condition.
“As a father, it has been an incredibly challenging journey. I observed something was off when he came home on vacation in April [2023]. I immediately began addressing his health concerns, and we underwent numerous tests to uncover the root cause of his ailment until his passing yesterday morning,” Mr. Lutterodt shared with Citinewsroom.com.
A close family friend, Boaz Ayitah, disclosed that James had aspired to pursue higher education abroad after receiving admission offers from several international universities. Sadly, he could not live long enough to fulfill his dream.
Contrary to erroneous social media reports and videos, the grieving family clarified that James experienced difficulty breathing prior to his demise.
In 2021, James Lutterodt rose to prominence as a key member of the Ketasco team that participated in the esteemed NSMQ competition. Although they did not emerge as champions, their exceptional performance and formidable challenge to renowned schools captured the hearts of many.
