In the quiet town of Keta, nestled in the beautiful Volta region of Ghana, a somber event is set to take place today, Saturday, September 9, 2023. It is a day when family, friends, and the community come together to bid a final farewell to James Lutterodt, the shining star of Keta Senior High Technical School’s 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) team.
James Lutterodt’s journey was tragically cut short on July 1, 2023, when he succumbed to a brief illness while under medical care at a hospital in Tema. The news of his passing sent shockwaves through the community, as he was not only a brilliant young mind but also a beloved son, friend, and inspiration to many.
During the pre-burial service held in his honor, Francis Jackson Ahiable, a close family friend, delivered a poignant tribute on behalf of James’ grieving mother. In these heartfelt words, she poured out her deep sorrow and shared cherished memories of her beloved son:
“You meant the world to me, James, and you embodied everything a son could be. Your presence was precious and truly exceptional, a one-in-a-million soul. Your future held such promise and potential. It is profoundly painful to accept that you were taken from us in the prime of your life.
Why couldn’t fate spare you? You had a lifetime ahead of you, but we trust in God’s wisdom. James, I miss you constantly, and you remain in my thoughts. How I yearn for your presence here with us. While death may have separated us physically, it can never erase you from my heart. Tears flow whenever I speak your name. No one feels your absence more deeply than I do, and I will forever hold onto my memories of you because you reside eternally in my heart. Rest in peace, my beloved son.”
Prior to today’s burial service, a pre-burial ceremony was conducted on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Tema Community Centre in Accra. This event served as an opportunity for friends, well-wishers, and the wider community to come together and pay their respects to the late NSMQ star, James Lutterodt.
