The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is back, and the 2024 edition is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet! As always, the competition will feature the best and brightest minds from secondary schools across Ghana, all vying for the coveted NSMQ trophy. This year, 31 schools have earned the honor of being seeded, securing their spots at the National Championship.

Being seeded means that these schools are guaranteed a place in the prestigious One-eighth Stage of the competition, bypassing the earlier regional qualifiers. This recognition is a testament to their stellar performances in past NSMQ editions and establishes them as top contenders for the 2024 crown.

What It Means to Be Seeded

Schools that perform exceptionally well in a given year’s championship earn a seed for the following year. The top 27 schools from the previous competition automatically secure this seeded status. In addition, Regional and Zonal Champions who did not make it to the top 27 are awarded a “wild card” status, making them seeded but still having to begin their journey from the One-eighth Stage. This distinction allows these schools to skip the regional qualifiers and directly compete with other national-level contenders.
