The EN Analytics Top 100 Senior High School Rankings for Science and Mathematics 2023 are out, and they provide valuable insights into the educational landscape of Ghana. These rankings are based on data from 198 schools across all sixteen regions of Ghana, making it a comprehensive evaluation of senior high schools in the country.
The primary aim of these rankings is to establish a global standard ranking system that can be trusted by students, teachers, government institutions, and the general public.
EN Analytics’ ranking model is primarily based on a school’s final position in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) at the national level and the category of the school. This ranking system focuses on rewarding consistent performance, regardless of whether a school wins the competition or not.
As of 2023, there are 679 Senior High Schools (SHSs) in Ghana, and EN Analytics has meticulously selected the top 100 schools for science and mathematics education. The rankings provide a clear picture of which schools excel in these critical subjects.
Five Key Insights from the 2023 Rankings
- Upward Movements: Notable improvements were observed in the rankings for Mpraeso SHS, which moved from 120th in 2022 to 84th in 2023, and Wesley Grammar School, which jumped from 81st in 2022 to 61st in 2023.
- Ashanti Region Dominance: The Ashanti region boasts the highest number of schools, with 23 institutions making it into the top 100 rankings. This indicates the region’s strong commitment to science and mathematics education.
- Keta SHTS Tops the Category B and Mixed School Rankings: Keta SHTS (KETASCO) secured the top position among category B schools and stands as the highest-ranked mixed school in Ghana, currently holding the 6th spot nationally.
- Kumasi Secondary Technical School Leads in Category C: Kumasi Secondary Technical School is the highest-ranked category C school in Ghana, securing the 21st position nationally.
- Regional Disparities: Notably, no school from the Ahafo, Savannah, Western North, Oti, and North East regions made it into the top 100 list. This reveals the regional variations in the quality of science and mathematics education.
About EN Analytics SHS Rankings for 2023
The rankings are meticulously compiled based on the performance of schools in the National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) over the last 11 years. EN Analytics has put together the most comprehensive database of NSMQ competition data, starting from 2013. Over this period, 198 schools in Ghana have reached at least the One-Eighth stage of the competition.
A notable addition to this year’s rankings is the introduction of regional rankings, making the rankings more relevant to the regions. The regional rankings also offer an opportunity for the 98 schools that didn’t make it into the national top 100 to be featured in the regional rankings. Any school that isn’t included in the national or regional rankings is classified as “Unranked.”
