GES interdicts two more Headteachers for alleged unofficial sales to SHS 1 students

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken decisive action against two additional Headteachers, further intensifying their crackdown on alleged unauthorized fees charged to students.

Mr. Afi Yaw Stephen, Headmaster of Berekum Senior High School, and Mr. Joseph Jilinjeh Abudu, Headmaster of Odomaseman Senior High School, have both been interdicted for allegedly selling unauthorized items to Form One students.

Details of Allegations

According to official statements from the GES, Mr. Afi Yaw Stephen stands accused of imposing unauthorized fees, including what has been dubbed as “Borla fees,” “motivation fees,” and charges for “lunch bags.”

On the other hand, Mr. Joseph Jilinjeh Abudu is alleged to have charged students GHC45 for various items, including hymn books, SRC fees, and brown khaki uniforms.

Previous Incidents

This latest action comes on the heels of the suspension of the Headteachers of O’Reilly Senior High School and Ghana Senior High School, less than 24 hours prior. The GES has been swift in addressing allegations of misconduct, bringing the total number of interdicted Headteachers to four within a short span.

NAGRAT President’s Warning

Amidst these developments, Angel Carbonu, President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), has issued a stern warning to Headteachers nationwide. Carbonu emphasized the need for strict compliance with the government’s policy, which unequivocally prohibits the sale of any items to students within school premises.
