GNAT discloses payment date for refund of wrongful TM1 deduction

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has announced that the long-standing issue of wrongful deductions from teachers’ salaries is finally set to be resolved. The announcement came during the GNAT National Council meeting held from Tuesday, September 26th to Friday, September 29th, 2023.

During the meeting, GNAT representatives presented their challenges and concerns to Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, who attended on behalf of the Minister for Education. One of the key issues discussed was the GH¢44.55 wrongful deduction from teachers’ salaries, which has been a source of frustration for many educators.

In a promising turn of events, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour assured GNAT members that the deducted GH¢44.55 would be reimbursed. He went on to specify that the refund would be processed and paid out in the months of October and November 2023, providing a clear timeline for the resolution of this matter.

Furthermore, during his address, Hon. John Ntim Fordjour touched upon other concerns and issues that had been raised by GNAT members. He pledged that the Minister for Education would diligently address these concerns and work towards providing lasting solutions.

Teachers can now look forward to the reimbursement of their wrongfully deducted funds in the coming months, and the promise of further improvements in their working conditions.
