30% of all ‘Category A’ schools reserved for students from gov’t schools only

The Ministry of Education has revealed that 30% of all placements in Category A schools have been reserved for candidates who attended public schools, a move meant to bring about equity in the placement of candidates in schools across the country.

The disclosure comes in the wake of complaints from some parents and students about the self-placement of over 15,000 students who are yet to be placed in any senior high school.

Mr. Ernest Akosah, the Deputy Public Relations Officer at the Ministry noted that learning facilities in public schools were not adequate, as compared to those in private institutions.

“We have what we call 30% equity quota that we give to those who attended public schools because, if you look at the infrastructure and logistics in the government schools, we try to also create that enabling environment so that they can also have the opportunity to taste what is happening at Legon Presec, Achimota SHS.

As to whether the students are placed based on their school selection or grades, he said, “We look at the aggregate, raw score, and available vacancies, adding that some students choose Category B schools out of fear that they may not get into any Category A schools.

Out of a total number of 547,324 candidates who participated in this year’s BECE exam, 539,399 have qualified for placement in their preferred choices; 372,780 were automatically placed, while 165,601 were not, requiring them to go in for self-placement.

2. Choose the card type you want to buy. e.g.: CSSPS Placement Checker
3. Enter the number of cards you want to buy, and the amount will be automatically calculated.
4. Click on “Buy Now”
5. You will be taken to a new screen where you enter your name and phone number (Card details will be sent via SMS to the phone number you enter here)
6. Click on “Proceed to Payment”
7. On the next screen, choose Mobile Money and enter your MoMo number. You’ll be sent an OTP to confirm.
8. Confirm the payment on your phone.
9. You will instantly receive an SMS with the Placement Checker details and instructions to check.

Simple steps to check Senior High School placement

1. Obtain a placement pin code from an approved vendor HERE.
2. After obtaining a pin code, log onto the site cssps.gov.gh
3. Enter the ten-digit index number and add 22 as year of completion. Eg: 123456789022
4. Enter the pin code details (serial number and pin)
5. Click on submit and wait for placement to be displayed
6. Print the form if you have been placed and visit the school to begin admission process
7. System will redirect you for self-placement, if not placed

Simple steps to perform manual/self-placement

If a candidate is not matched with any of their choices from the automatic placement system, they will be redirected to the self-placement portal.

A qualified Candidate is then required to select a school by providing the under-listed information:

• Region
• Residential preference
• School
• Programme of Choice.

Note: Schools selected on self-placement portal can be changed as many times as the candidate wishes until they enroll in a school.

All schools with vacancies have been uploaded on the portal, to enable students to select from during self-placement.
