The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has unveiled an exciting development for the education sector in Ghana. As part of the government’s ambitious Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) transformational agenda, 12 Senior High Schools are set to introduce aviation and aerospace engineering courses in partnership with select universities, starting in the next academic year.
This groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionize the educational landscape in Ghana by offering students a unique opportunity to blend high school and college-level coursework.
Under this program, students who enroll and successfully graduate from these specialized high schools will have already completed one year of college-level work. As a result, their university journey will be shortened to three years instead of the traditional four years.
Dr. Adutwum made this exciting announcement during the 2nd STEM Promotion Roadshow, hosted at the Abomosu STEM Model School in the Eastern Region. He emphasized the critical role of education in driving the transformation of the country’s economic landscape.
“Twelve schools in our country are going to offer aviation and aerospace engineering programs. We are forging innovative partnerships with universities, and the innovation lies in the fact that students who enroll in this program will have completed one year of college work by the time they graduate from high school,” Dr. Adutwum explained.
He continued, “Consequently, when they enter university, their academic journey will be reduced to three years instead of the traditional four years. I want to assure you that the government recognizes that our short-term, medium-term, and long-term transformation hinges on education.”
