The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced that all withheld results from the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released by February 28, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, February 7, at WAEC’s head office in Accra, John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, assured stakeholders that the examination body remains committed to due process and transparency in handling alleged cases of malpractice.
“The Council has continued its hearing for the affected candidates and has been releasing results as appropriate. The Council wishes to assure all stakeholders that all cases of malpractices will be finalized and also results released by February 28,” Kapi stated.
WAEC’s announcement comes in the wake of a recent legal dispute regarding the withheld results. On January 30, 2025, the High Court ruled in favor of four students representing 10,520 candidates, ordering WAEC to release their results.
However, WAEC has since filed for a stay of execution, seeking more time to conclude its investigations. The court is set to hear this application on February 20, 2025.
The students’ legal counsel, Martin Kpebu, argued in court that WAEC had not provided clear evidence of the alleged malpractices, leaving thousands of candidates uncertain about their academic future.
What This Means for Affected Candidates
With WAEC’s commitment to concluding investigations and releasing the results by February 28, affected students can expect clarity soon. Whether the court upholds WAEC’s request for a stay of execution or not, the examination body has assured that all results will be available by the end of the month.
