In a significant and cautionary development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially flagged a widely circulated appointment letter as FAKE, raising concerns among 2024 graduates and job seekers regarding fraudulent employment offers.
The letter in question, dated 15th May 2025, appears to be an offer of appointment addressed to one Godfred Awupong Bonsu, supposedly appointing him as a Teacher to teach Accounting at Ghana National College in Cape Coast Metropolitan in the Central Region, with an effective start date of 26th May 2025. The document falsely states that the appointee will hold the rank of Principal Superintendent with a base grade of PS16H, and be paid a salary from the date of assumption of duty.
The letter details that the appointee is to report immediately to the Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service for document validation and further instructions. It also falsely outlines provisions for salary increments, probationary period, and service conditions. Moreover, the document states that the offer is subject to medical fitness and required documents must be submitted no later than 20th June 2025.
It carries the forged name and signature of Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the Director-General of GES, and includes a QR code, possibly to add a layer of perceived authenticity. The fake letter was further disseminated with multiple CCs, including to high-ranking officials within GES, the Auditor-General, and other key institutional stakeholders.
However, the Ghana Education Service has clearly marked this document with a bold “FAKE” stamp, serving as a stern warning to graduates and the general public to be vigilant against fraudulent recruitment practices. GES continues to stress that all genuine communications regarding appointments will be officially published through their designated channels, including their website and verified social media platforms.
Graduates are strongly advised to verify any employment correspondence with the Ghana Education Service headquarters or regional offices before taking further action. This development underscores the need for due diligence and caution as many young professionals eagerly await recruitment into the public education sector.
