In a shocking incident at Labone Senior High School on Wednesday, chaotic scenes unfolded as viral videos on social media captured police firing warning shots to restore order. Concerned by the escalating situation, the La-Dadekotopon Municipal Education Directorate took swift action, launching a thorough investigation into the matter.
Amid rumors of a siege by members of the township, Habiba Kotoma, the La-Dadekotopon Municipal Education Director, addressed the public, dispelling inaccuracies and shedding light on the true nature of the incident.
The turmoil began around 3:20 pm when the school campus became the center of unrest. Eyewitnesses reported seeing individuals, believed to be members of the nearby township, wielding cutlasses and other weapons, leading to widespread panic and fear among students and residents alike.
The alleged motive behind the intrusion was an act of retaliation against a senior student who was accused of assaulting a junior within the school premises.
In response to the disturbing events, Habiba Kotoma came forward to provide clarity on the situation. She refuted claims of a full-scale siege by township members, stating that the incident was primarily a student matter.
The Municipal Education Directorate had not gathered sufficient facts at the time of her interview, having spoken only to the junior student involved. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the incident, they planned to meet with the senior student the following day to hear his side of the story.
According to Kotoma’s account, the altercation arose when a junior student had packs of food confiscated by a senior, leading to an outburst of anger that escalated into a fight.
The involvement of town folks, she asserted, was limited to some friends of the junior student who came to his aid. While investigations were already underway, no arrests had been made, as the school personnel had managed to bring the situation under control before the police’s arrival.
As of Citi News’ visit to the school, calm had been restored, and regular school activities had resumed. Meanwhile, school authorities remained tight-lipped about the incident. However, it was observed that they held meetings with the La-Dadekotopon Municipal Education Director following her visit to the school, indicating their cooperation with the investigation.
