Avid fans of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) were in for a treat on Thursday, October 19th, as they witnessed three nail-biting contests that would determine who secures a spot in the highly anticipated 2023 finals.
With nine schools vying for the coveted title, the stage was set for high-stakes showdowns that would keep everyone on the edge of their seats.
Three schools emerged victorious and solidified their positions in the 2023 finals. Among them were the seven-time champions, Presbyterian Boys SHS, the two-time titleholders Achimota School, and the equally illustrious two-time champions, Opoku Ware.
These schools have already left a mark on NSMQ history, and their clash in the finals promises to be nothing short of epic.
Achimota School faced a rigorous challenge in a showdown against formidable opponents Wesley Girls and St Louis SHS. The Thursday morning clash was nothing short of intense, but Achimota School emerged triumphant with a commanding 41 points.
They established a significant 10-point lead in the final round, proving their mettle as they strive to add another title to their collection.
Opoku Ware had their share of challenges as they faced their Kumasi rivals, Prempeh College, and Pope John Seminary. This battle proved to be their most arduous yet since the competition’s inception. However, in a historic victory, they outshone their Kumasi counterparts for the very first time, winning their contest with 38 points, two points more than their opponents.
The last semi-final match witnessed a daunting contest between Presec Legon, Mfantsipim School, and Keta SHS. In a grueling battle of wits, Presec emerged as the ultimate victor, earning their place in the grand finale, set to take place on Tuesday, October 31. Their determination and resilience have brought them one step closer to NSMQ glory.
As the tension continues to build, the question on everyone’s minds is: who will ultimately emerge as the victor in the 2023 NSMQ finals? Will it be the seven-time champions, the seasoned Achimota School, or the two-time titleholders, Opoku Ware, who are determined to make history once more? Only time will reveal the answer to this eagerly awaited question, and fans of the competition can hardly wait for the grand showdown.
