On July 14, 2023, the highly anticipated Eastern Regional Championship for the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz kicked off with nineteen schools vying for the prestigious title.
The participating schools were divided into five contests. The intense competition throughout the day left the audience on the edge of their seats, witnessing remarkable displays of intellect and quick thinking.
At the end of the day, here are the results for the contests that were held:
Contest 1
The first contest featured Pope John Minor Seminary/SHS, Koforidua Sec/Tech. School, Krobo Girls’ SHS, and Nkwatia Presby SHS. Pope John Minor Seminary/SHS demonstrated their dominance with an impressive score of 39 points, securing their place in the semifinals. Koforidua Sec/Tech. School secured the second position with 22 points, followed by Krobo Girls’ SHS with 17 points and Nkwatia Presby SHS with 15 points.

Contest 2
In the second contest, Nifa SHS, Oda SHS, Okuapemman School, and Oti Boateng SHS battled it out for a spot in the semifinals. Nifa SHS emerged victorious with 19 points, narrowly edging out Oda SHS with 18 points. Okuapemman School and Oti Boateng SHS both scored 16 points, resulting in a tie for the third position.

Contest 3
St. Peter’s SHS, Ghana SHS Koforidua, Mpraeso SHS, and Asamankese SHS competed in the third contest. St. Peter’s SHS displayed exceptional knowledge and emerged as the winners of this contest with a remarkable score of 40 points. Ghana SHS, Koforidua secured the second position with 24 points, while Mpraeso SHS and Asamankese SHS scored 17 and 16 points, respectively.

Contest 4
The fourth contest witnessed a fierce battle between Ofori Pain SHS, Aburi Girls’ SHS, Aburi Presby SHTS, and Mamfe Methodist Girls’ SHS. Ofori Pain SHS secured the top position with 25 points, closely followed by Aburi Girls’ SHS with 24 points. Aburi Presby SHTS claimed the third position with 19 points, while Mamfe Methodist Girls’ SHS scored 5 points.

Contest 5
Yilo Krobo SHS, Abuakwa State College, and Abetifi Presby SHS battled it out in the final contest for the day. Yilo Krobo SHS emerged victorious with an impressive score of 39 points, securing their place in the semifinals. Abuakwa State College displayed a commendable performance, earning them the second position with 31 points. Abetifi Presby SHS scored 21 points, ending their journey in the quarterfinals.

Note: Abuakwa State College qualified as the top runners-up from the day’s set of contests.
