The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar for all basic schools across the country. This calendar covers Kindergarten (KG), Primary, and Junior High Schools (JHS), and is structured to ensure smooth academic activity, effective teaching, and learning throughout the year.
According to the GES, the academic year has been divided into three terms, with clearly outlined reopening and closing dates, vacation periods, and mid-term breaks. Here is a detailed breakdown:
First Term – 15 Weeks
- Reopening Date: 2nd September 2025
- Closing Date: 18th December 2025
- Vacation: 19th December 2025 – 7th January 2026
- Mid-Term Break: 31st October – 3rd November 2025 (2 days)
Second Term – 12 Weeks
- Reopening Date: 8th January 2026
- Closing Date: 1st April 2026
- Vacation: 2nd April – 20th April 2026
Third Term – 13 Weeks
- Reopening Date: 21st April 2026
- Closing Date: 23rd July 2026
- Vacation: Begins 24th July 2026
Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)
The BECE for the 2025/2026 academic year has been scheduled to take place from 4th May to 11th May 2026.
GES emphasized the importance of observing all public holidays within the academic year and reiterated that each term will include a two-day mid-term break. Stakeholders—including heads of schools, teachers, parents, and guardians—are encouraged to take note of these dates and ensure adequate preparation for the academic year.
The management also extended appreciation to all involved in the education sector for their dedication throughout the 2024/2025 academic year, which officially ends on Thursday, 24th July 2025.
