The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially extended the deadline for the school selection process for candidates of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). According to a circular dated 13th June 2025, the new deadline for selecting Senior High Schools (SHSs) has been moved to Wednesday, 25th June 2025.
This extension is a response to the inclusion of private Senior High Schools in the selection process, providing students with more time to make thoughtful and well-informed decisions about their next phase of education. GES emphasized that all existing guidelines and procedures for the school selection process remain unchanged.
Students are being urged to engage in discussions with their teachers, parents, and guardians to carefully consider their options and make informed choices. The Service highlighted the importance of making deliberate and informed decisions when selecting second cycle institutions.
Regional Directors of Education have been directed to ensure this information is widely disseminated to Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. These officials are, in turn, expected to collaborate with JHS head teachers to ensure that all final-year students are made aware of the updated deadline and are supported throughout the selection process.
To further assist candidates and stakeholders, GES has provided a supplementary register containing the newly added private SHSs.
This extension serves as an opportunity for candidates to reassess their school preferences and take full advantage of the broader range of options now available to them.
Stay informed and make your school choices count!
