The Management of the Ghana Education Service has asked all Heads of public basic schools to as a matter of urgency, promote last year Junior High School form two students to form three.
This directive was contained in a letter dated January 17, 2023 and signed by Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh; Deputy Director-General (Questions & Answers) on behalf of the Director-General.
According to the letter sighted by GESHub.org, GES has noted that some Heads of Public Basic Schools are repeating the last academic year’s JHS2 students who are progressing to JHS3 this academic year.
For this reason, the Management of the Service says it has taken a serious exception to this practice.
This is due to the fact that the current JHS 3 students are the last batch of the Objective-Based Curriculum who will write the BECE this year.
The current JHS2 students are the first batch who will write BECE in 2024 using the Standard- Based Curriculum.
In view of the above, GES has instructed that all last year’s JHS2 students should progress to JHS3 in order not to disadvantage any Objective-Based Curriculum students in the BECE.
Accordingly, Management of GES is requesting Regional Directors of Education to bring the above directives to the attention of Metro / Municipal / District Directors of Education for strict compliance by all Heads of Basic Schools.
