On the 18th of July, 2023, the Weija-Gbawe Municipality issued essential directives to candidates appearing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) scheduled for the 7th to 11th of August.
GES’ directives to invigilators
With a firm commitment to conducting the exams in a transparent and just manner, the Education Directorate set forth a set of rules and regulations for both candidates and school authorities.
Dress Code and Punctuality
Candidates are informed to wear only flat open sandals without socks for the examination. Punctuality was highly emphasized, and candidates are instructed to be seated in the examination hall at least thirty minutes before the start time. Latecomers would not be permitted to write the paper.
Thorough Inspection and Prohibited Items
To maintain the integrity of the examination, supervisors and invigilators are authorized to conduct thorough searches of all candidates, including their private parts, before allowing them to enter the examination hall. This measure is aimed at preventing any attempt at cheating. Additionally, candidates wearing head coverings, including veils, are also subjected to the search.
Candidates are warned against bringing any foreign materials into the examination hall and would be held responsible if such items were found. Mobile phones, earphones, wristwatches, and other electronic devices were strictly prohibited during the examination.
Use of Index Numbers and Pen Color
To ensure accuracy and fairness in grading, candidates are instructed to use only the index numbers provided by WAEC (West African Examinations Council).
Furthermore, candidates are allowed to use only transparent blue pens for writing during the examination.
Examination Malpractice and Future Re-Entry
Candidates are reminded that engaging in any form of examination malpractice is a criminal offense punishable by law, as stated in WAEC Law, Act 719 (2006). This stern warning serves as a reminder of the consequences of dishonest behavior during the examination.
Exclusion of Unauthorized Personnel
To maintain a controlled and secure environment, all Headteachers, teachers, and unauthorized personnel are prohibited from entering the premises of the examination centers during the exams.
