The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year for all second cycle institutions, including both single track and transitional schools.
In a circular dated 20th August 2025, and signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, GES announced that first-year students in single track and transitional schools are expected to report on 18th October, 2025.
The letter was directed to all Regional Directors, with a directive to disseminate the attached academic calendar to Heads of all Senior High Schools (SHSs) under their jurisdiction. The GES emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the calendar to ensure consistency, smooth implementation, and effective teaching and learning in schools nationwide.
“Other key term dates and holidays have been clearly outlined in the attached academic calendar,” the letter noted. It further added that footnotes have been provided to offer additional guidance on special arrangements and considerations for the smooth running of the school year.
The GES urged Regional Directors to provide the necessary monitoring and support to Heads of Schools for successful calendar implementation.
This new calendar comes as part of GES’s commitment to improve planning and operational efficiency across the country’s second cycle institutions.
