The Ghana Education Service (GES) has recently made an important announcement regarding the reopening date for senior high and technical school form one students.
In a statement dated September 1, signed by the Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, Prince Agyemang-Duah, the GES has decided to reschedule the reopening date to September 25, 2023. This decision comes in response to proposals made after the release of a new academic calendar for basic schools and Senior High Schools (SHS) by GES.
New Reopening Date
According to the official statement released by GES, the reopening date for form one students in Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools has been officially shifted to September 25, 2023. This change in the academic calendar is significant for students, parents, and educators alike.
Communication to School Heads
In addition to announcing the new reopening date, GES has also issued a directive to Regional Directors of Education. They are requested to promptly communicate this information to all Heads of Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools. This step ensures that parents, guardians, and students are well-informed about the revised schedule, allowing them to prepare accordingly.
Recap of Previous Academic Calendar
To provide context, it is worth revisiting the previous academic calendar set by the Ghana Education Service. Initially, it was outlined that first-year SHS students in double-track schools were expected to report to school on Monday, February 20, 2023, and vacate on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
Following this, from Friday, April 14, to Thursday, June 8, 2023, first-year students in double-track schools were on a break and were set to resume on Friday, June 9, to Thursday, August 10, 2023.
Furthermore, from Thursday, August 11, to Sunday, September 17, 2023, these students were scheduled for another break and were originally supposed to resume on Monday, September 18, 2023.
