The Teachers’ Fund of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has officially announced an upward revision in the ceiling for its Personal Loan Facility. In a circular dated August 2025 and addressed to all Regional and District Secretaries through the GNAT General Secretary, the Fund confirmed that from 1st September 2025, teachers will be able to access up to ₵40,000 under the Personal Loan product — an increase from the current limit of ₵35,000.
According to the statement signed by Alfred Dela Agudetse, Chief Operations Officer, and Foster Buabeng, Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers’ Fund, the decision is aimed at improving access to funds for teachers to meet personal and emergency financial needs.
Details of the New Loan Structure
While the Personal Loan limit has been adjusted upwards, the limits for other loan products remain unchanged. The table below outlines the current and new limits, as well as repayment durations:
| Loan Type | Current Limit | New Limit | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal | ₵35,000 | ₵40,000 | 48 Months |
| Investment Capital | ₵50,000 | ₵50,000 | 60 Months |
| Habitat | ₵60,000 | ₵60,000 | 60 Months |
| Vehicle | ₵70,000 | ₵70,000 | Up to 84 Months |
The Personal Loan Facility is one of the most patronized products of the Teachers’ Fund, offering members a flexible repayment period of up to 48 months. The increment of ₵5,000 is expected to provide members with greater flexibility in meeting personal, educational, and family-related expenses.
Terms and Conditions Remain the Same
The Fund made it clear that all other loan products and their respective terms and conditions remain unchanged. This means that members applying for Investment Capital, Habitat, or Vehicle Loans will still be subject to the existing ceilings and repayment durations.
Call for Dissemination and Member Awareness
The circular urged all Regional and District Secretaries to disseminate this important update to all GNAT members within their jurisdictions. Teachers are encouraged to seek further clarification or assistance directly from the Teachers’ Fund Secretariat or through their local GNAT offices.
Why This Increment Matters
For many teachers, the Personal Loan is a vital source of supplementary funding, often used for:
- Paying for children’s school fees and educational expenses
- Funding home repairs or small building projects
- Covering medical bills or emergencies
- Starting or boosting small businesses
- Managing other personal commitments
GNAT aims to give members greater financial leverage while ensuring repayment terms remain realistic and affordable by raising the ceiling to ₵40,000.
Leadership Commitment
The Teachers’ Fund leadership, under Chairman Mr. David Kattah and CEO Mr. Foster Buabeng, reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the Fund remains responsive to the financial needs of members while safeguarding its sustainability.
“We count on your usual cooperation to disseminate this information to all members within your jurisdiction,” the circular concluded.
The Fund’s trustees include seasoned educationists and financial experts such as Dr. Kweku Ainuson, Chief Alhassan Andani, Mr. Fritz A. Gockel, and several others, ensuring transparency and prudent management of members’ contributions.
