The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and the Free SHS Secretariat, has recently released the eagerly awaited school placements for candidates who sat for the latest edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

However, amidst the excitement, there have been reports of dissatisfaction among some students regarding their assigned schools. Many have taken to social media to voice their concerns and seek guidance on how to secure a school placement of their choice.

GESHub.org is here to address these concerns and shed light on the alternative method available for students aspiring to enroll in a specific school. While the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) offers automatic and self-placement options, there exists another avenue known as the protocol system.

The protocol system allots 5% of a school’s declared vacancies for allocation to the institution’s stakeholders. This means that individuals associated with a particular school, such as the children of alumni or staff members, have the opportunity to secure admission through this system.

The protocol system is designed to accommodate the interests and connections within the school community.

Stakeholders eligible for consideration under the protocol system include the children of alumni, staff members, Missions, and the Traditional Seats associated with the relevant school. This approach aims to maintain a balance between automatic placements and allowing the school community to have a say in the admissions process.

In addition to familial and institutional connections, the protocol system may also consider candidates with exceptional talents, such as prowess in sports. This inclusion recognizes the importance of diverse skills and abilities in shaping a well-rounded student body.

To ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities, 30% of spaces in the country’s top 55 schools have been reserved for candidates from public Junior High Schools. This initiative encourages a more comprehensive representation of students from various backgrounds and fosters diversity within these prestigious institutions.

Conclusion

As students and parents navigate the school placement process in Ghana, understanding the protocol system becomes crucial for those seeking admission to a specific institution.

While the automatic and self-placement options are available, the protocol system provides an alternative avenue for individuals with affiliations to a particular school or unique talents.

By being informed about these options, students can make more informed decisions and explore the possibilities within the education system. GESHub.org remains committed to providing valuable insights and guidance to the public, ensuring a smoother transition for students into the next phase of their academic journey.
