The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the renaming of Nsein Senior High School to Kwame Nkrumah Senior High School, Nsein. This change, effective from the 2024/2025 academic year, was confirmed in a letter from the GES headquarters in Accra, dated July 18, 2024.
The Director-General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah, addressed the letter to the Regional Director of the Western Region. It acknowledged the receipt of a prior request dated July 16, 2024, and conveyed the approval for the name change.
With this new designation, the management of the school is required to update their records in line with the Schools and Instructions Division and the Free Senior High School Secretariat’s data updates on the School Register. This administrative step ensures that all records reflect the new name, Kwame Nkrumah Senior High School, Nsein, aligning with the school’s updated identity.
Dr. Nkansah’s letter also requested that this information be communicated to the head of the school and all relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition.
The announcement has been circulated to several key officials, including the Chairman of the GES Council in Accra, the Deputy Director-General of GES (MS) and (Q&A), the Acting Director of Schools and Instructions Division, the National Coordinator of CSSPS, the National Coordinator of the Free SHS Secretariat at the Ministry of Education, the Western Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive of the Nzema East Municipal Assembly, the Head of National Office of WAEC in Accra, the Headmaster of Nsein Senior High School in Axim, and the Omanhene of Lower Town Axim and Nsein Traditional Council.
This renaming honors the legacy of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah, and aligns with the broader national tradition of commemorating prominent figures in the country’s history through educational institutions.
