The provocative question on the lips of students, parents, guardians, and teachers alike in Ghana is, “When will single track Form 1 and 2 students reopen school to commence the 2024/2025 academic year?”
As the days pass, anticipation grows, however, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has made an official announcement regarding the reopening date.
Form 2 students from this category of schools bid farewell to the classrooms on August 25, 2023, while Form 1 students concluded their academic year on September 15. However, the uncertainty surrounding the reopening date has left everyone involved in education in a state of limbo.
Parents are feeling the pressure as they anxiously await information that will enable them to make plans for their children’s return to school. Teachers, too, are eager to know when they will be back to their classrooms as they wrap up the semester and embark on their holidays.
The exciting news however, is that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has unveiled the academic calendar for the 2023/2024 academic year, specifically tailored for single track Senior High Schools across the country.
In this comprehensive guide, we will take you through the new reopening and vacation dates, ensuring that students and parents are well-informed about the schedule for the upcoming year.
1st Semester Reopening
As per the official calendar released by the Ghana Education Service, the 1st semester of the academic year will kick off for Form 2 and Form 3 students on November 1. These students will eagerly return to school to start their academic journey for the year.
Form 1 students, on the other hand, will have a slightly later reopening date, with their 1st semester session commencing on December 4. This staggered approach to reopening ensures a smooth transition for all students.
1st Semester Vacation
For the 1st semester, all Form 3 and Form 2 students will conclude their studies and head home for a well-deserved break on March 5, 2024. Form 1 students will wrap up their 1st semester on March 15, 2024.
This means that Form 3 and Form 2 students will have nearly two months of vacation, allowing them to recharge and spend quality time with family and friends.
2nd Semester Reopening
Looking ahead to the 2nd semester, all Form 1, Form 2, and Form 3 students will return to school on May 3, 2024. This date marks the beginning of the 2nd semester, where students will engage in various academic and extracurricular activities.
2nd Semester Vacation
The 2nd semester will draw to a close on August 28, 2024, for Form 2 and Form 1 students. It is worth noting that Form 3 students will continue their studies until they complete their West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers.
2023 WASSCE Date
In addition to the regular academic calendar, it is essential to mark your calendars for the 2023 WASSCE. This critical examination for all Senior High Schools in Ghana is scheduled to commence in August/September 2024. It is a significant milestone for students, and thorough preparation is crucial.
As the academic year unfolds, we encourage students, parents, and educators to keep these dates in mind to ensure a smooth and successful academic journey. The GES is dedicated to providing quality education and supporting the growth and development of students across the country. We wish all students the best of luck in the upcoming academic year and the 2023 WASSCE.
