With the recent release of this year’s Senior High School (SHS) placements by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and Free SHS Secretariat, there has been a surge of discontent among students who find themselves placed in schools that may not align with their preferences.

The Computerized School Selection and Placement System, designed to streamline the placement process, has faced scrutiny from some quarters. In response to the growing concerns, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a cautionary statement to the public.

The GES emphasizes that the Computerized School Placement is a merit-based system, and parents should exercise caution against individuals claiming to facilitate transfers to schools of their choice in exchange for payment.

It is essential for parents and students to understand that the placement process is conducted based on merit. The GES discourages any financial transactions with unauthorized individuals who claim they can alter the school placement results. Instead, the Service encourages trust in the meritocracy of the system.

Addressing the concerns of students who were not automatically matched with their preferred schools, the GES assures that all schools with available vacancies have been uploaded on the school placement portal.

Students are encouraged to utilize the self-placement option on the portal to select from the list of schools with vacancies. This process is designed to allow students to have agency in choosing a school that aligns with their preferences.

For those facing challenges or seeking further assistance with their school placements, the GES provides avenues for redress. The National Solution Centre at the GNAT Hall in Adabraka and Regional Solution Centres at various Regional Education Offices are designated locations for addressing placement issues.

Additionally, a helpline (0308258001) has been established for concerns related to school placements.

Conclusion

Navigating the Senior High School placement process can be a challenging experience, but it is crucial for students and parents to adhere to the guidelines provided by the Ghana Education Service.

By understanding the merit-based nature of the Computerized School Placement system and utilizing the available resources for redress, families can ensure a smoother transition into the next phase of education.

The GES remains committed to addressing concerns and facilitating a fair and transparent placement process for all students.
