On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, a pivotal meeting took place in Ghana’s education landscape as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah, sat down with the national leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).
The meeting’s primary objective was to officially congratulate and welcome Dr. Nkansah to his new position while discussing crucial issues related to teacher welfare. The union leaders used the opportunity to commend the GES management for the remarkable improvements in teacher upgrades, promotions, and the clearance of backlogs.
During the meeting, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) conveyed its warm regards to the newly appointed Director-General, Dr. Eric Nkansah. As the leading teacher union in the country, GNAT plays a crucial role in advocating for the welfare and rights of teachers.

In a bid to further address the concerns of teachers, Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, unveiled plans for an innovative solution – a teacher welfare portal.
Speaking on PeaceFM’s Kokrokoo show, Dr. Adutwum expressed the Ministry of Education’s commitment to launching this platform soon. The purpose of the portal is to provide a centralized and efficient channel through which government school teachers can submit their concerns for prompt redress.
The upcoming website will streamline the process of handling teacher grievances, ensuring that each concern receives proper attention from the authorities. By assigning case managers to reported issues, the Ministry aims to oversee the resolution process, allowing for transparency and accountability.
With a robust dashboard in place, Dr. Adutwum will be able to monitor the progress and impact of addressing various welfare issues across different regions.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum emphasized that the Akufo-Addo government is unwavering in its commitment to making the teaching profession in Ghana more attractive and rewarding. Providing teachers with the necessary tools and resources is a key aspect of this vision.
