With each dialysis session costing GH₵380 more than what patients can afford, the unit is hemorrhaging funds, accumulating debts that endanger its very existence. “We are actually incurring costs which are not being paid for,” Prof. Boiman lamented, underscoring the urgent need for financial support to procure essential consumables and sustain quality care.
The gravity of the situation was further emphasized by Dr. Owusu Sekyere, Director of Medical Affairs at KBTH, revealing an additional debt of GH₵2 million incurred in treating kidney patients.
