The Management of the West African Examinations Council, has explained the symbols and their interpretations on the WAEC statement of results for BECE/WASSCE candidates in the country.
This explanation by WAEC, follows the successful conclusion of the 2023 BECE script marking. The Council will host the provisional results of these candidates at their official results checking website at waecgh.org.
It is for this reason that the Management of WAEC, has taken its time to explain the symbols and their interpretations on the WAEC statement of results for BECE/WASSCE candidates.
Below are the interpretations given to some symbols indicated on the WAEC results slip for both BECE and WASSCE candidates.

| W | Withheld (investigation into cases of alleged examination malpractice |
It is to be noted that WAEC does not upgrade results and therefore, candidates ad the entire public are advised to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade their results for them.
