Overview of the 2025 GES Promotion Exercise

The 2025 GES Promotion Exercise is currently ongoing. All shortlisted teachers have been issued index numbers via SMS, and the full list of candidates has also been forwarded to District, Municipal, Metro, and Regional Education Directorates across the country for verification.

Candidates who have not received SMS notifications are advised to check with their respective education offices to confirm their status and examination details.

Examination Dates and Ranks Involved

The promotion examinations will be conducted over two days, strictly according to rank:

  • Monday, 29th December 2025
    Ranks: Principal Superintendent (PS) and Assistant Director II (AD II)
    Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 noon
  • Tuesday, 30th December 2025
    Ranks: Assistant Director I (AD I) and Deputy Director (DD)
    Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

2025 GES Promotion Exams Questions Format By Rank

One of the most critical aspects of the 2025 promotion exercise is the uniform yet rank-specific question format. While all candidates are tested on core educational and administrative competencies, the structure of questions varies slightly depending on rank.

1. Principal Superintendent (PS)

  • Total Questions: 70
  • Question Type:
    • Multiple Choice
    • True or False

The PS examination focuses on assessing candidates’ understanding of school leadership, policy implementation, and classroom supervision within the Ghana Education Service framework.

2. Assistant Director II (AD II)

Candidates at this level are examined on similar core areas as PS candidates, with emphasis on instructional leadership, educational administration, and effective school management.

3. Assistant Director I (AD I)

  • Total Questions: 70
  • Question Type:
    • Multiple Choice
    • True or False

The AD I examination format is designed to test higher-level administrative knowledge, decision-making skills, and familiarity with national education policies and reforms.

4. Deputy Director (DD)

  • Total Questions: 70
  • Question Breakdown:
    • 50 Multiple Choice / True or False
    • 20 Fill-in Questions

The inclusion of fill-in questions at the Deputy Director level reflects the strategic and policy-oriented nature of the role, requiring candidates to demonstrate deeper conceptual understanding and applied knowledge.

Examination Day Requirements

All candidates must:

  • Present a valid National Identification Card at the examination centre.
  • Quote their Staff ID and Index Number on all examination papers.
  • Report to their centres early to allow time for verification and seating.

Special Arrangements for Candidates with Special Needs

GES has made special arrangements for candidates with special needs, particularly visually challenged candidates. Designated centres include:

  • Wesley College of Education, Kumasi
  • Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong
  • Nusrat Jahan Ahmadiyya College of Education, Wa

Candidates requiring assistance are expected to make prior arrangements before the examination date.
