As the school year is in full swing, the Ghana Education Service has officially unveiled the complete academic calendar for the 2024/2025 academic year for Kindergarten (KG), Primary, and Junior High Schools (JHS) across the country.
It is time for parents, guardians, teachers, and students to mark their calendars and plan ahead for the upcoming terms.
First Term: September 10 to December 19
The academic year kicks off on September 10, with KG, Primary, and JHS students eagerly returning to their classrooms for a term filled with learning and growth. This first term extends until December 19, providing ample time for students and teachers to dive into their studies.
Christmas Break: December 20 to January 7
Following an intense first term, the holiday season awaits. From December 20 to January 7, students get to enjoy a well-deserved break, spending quality time with family and friends, celebrating the holidays, and recharging for the next term.
Second Term: January 8 to April 17
With batteries recharged and a fresh perspective, students and teachers reconvene on January 8 for the second term of the academic year. This term continues through to April 17, allowing for a substantial period of focused learning and development.
Second Term Vacation: April 18 to May 5
As the second term comes to a close, students and educators will enjoy a brief respite. The second term vacation spans from April 18 to May 5, offering a chance to relax and rejuvenate before embarking on the final term of the academic year.
Third Term: May 6 to July 24
The last leg of the academic year begins on May 6, as students return for the third term. This term runs until July 24, making it a crucial time for students to consolidate their learning, prepare for exams, and complete their coursework before the year concludes.
End of the Academic Year & Preparations for Exams
As the school year draws to a close, students, teachers, and parents can look forward to a well-deserved break before the next academic year. This break is the ideal time to reflect on the accomplishments of the year and make plans for the future.
It is important to note that schools will operate for seven hours a day, with six contact hours and a one-hour break. Additionally, the Ghana Education Service aims to hold the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the month of June.
