The newly appointed Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has hit the ground running with a series of engagements aimed at fostering collaboration and setting the tone for his leadership. On January 23, he met with Directors and Heads of Units at the Ministry of Education in Accra, where he emphasized the importance of teamwork and collective action in transforming Ghana’s education system.
In his remarks, Hon. Iddrisu made a passionate appeal for support, urging all stakeholders to work together to achieve meaningful reforms. “I ask for your unwavering support and commitment to this shared mission. Do not let me down,” he stated, emphasizing that unity and cooperation are vital for progress.
As part of his strategic vision, the Minister announced plans to convene a National Education Conference. This event will bring together key players—including policymakers, educators, and development partners—to assess the current challenges in the education sector and develop actionable reforms.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Mamle Andrews, welcomed the Minister, expressing the team’s readiness to work under his leadership. She reaffirmed the Ministry’s alignment with his vision and eagerness to implement initiatives that will elevate education standards. Additionally, Dr. Eric Nkansah, former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), provided insights into the school feeding program, shedding light on its progress and challenges.
In a separate engagement, Hon. Iddrisu was officially welcomed at a staff durbar held at the Ministry’s headquarters. This gathering allowed him to interact with employees, outline his vision, and reaffirm his dedication to improving Ghana’s education sector.
During his speech, the Minister stressed the crucial role of the Ministry’s workforce in shaping policies that drive quality education. He called for efficiency, innovation, and inclusivity in policy implementation, assuring staff of his open-door policy to foster teamwork and engagement.
The durbar ended on a positive note, with staff members expressing enthusiasm and readiness to support the Minister in his mission to make education a cornerstone of Ghana’s development.
