In a significant stride towards nurturing young talent and promoting sports in education, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has recently garnered substantial backing from the global football governing body, FIFA.
The esteemed partnership comes in the form of the FIFA Footballs for Schools Project, a promising initiative poised to make a lasting impact on the budding athletes of Ghana.
FIFA’s heartfelt contribution to the cause is marked by the generous donation of an impressive 30,000 Case 4 Size footballs. These footballs are earmarked to reach a staggering 6,000 Basic Schools across Ghana, serving as a valuable resource for pupils aged between 7 and 14 years. The infusion of these footballs into the school system is a pivotal step towards igniting a passion for the sport from a young age.
Collaborating closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the GES has undertaken the responsibility of ensuring that these footballs do not merely serve as equipment but as catalysts for growth. To this end, 50 carefully selected Physical Education (P.E) & Sports Coordinators received comprehensive training at the Ghanaman Soccer School of Excellence in Prampram.
This training revolves around the utilization of a cutting-edge FIFA APP, specially designed to impart practical football knowledge and essential life skills. The goal is clear: to unearth hidden talents and nurture them within the school system.
The trained P.E & Sports Coordinators have an essential role to play, as they will be extending their expertise to various levels of the educational hierarchy.
Their mission encompasses training Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) P.E & Sports Coordinators, P.E & Sports Teachers, Sports Secretaries, Classroom Teachers, and learners, both at the Pre-Tertiary and Tertiary levels.
Moreover, the public at large will have access to this invaluable resource, as the FIFA APP is available free of charge.
At its core, the FIFA Footballs for Schools Project is driven by a noble vision — to provide equal opportunities for boys and girls to realize their full potential, not only as elite athletes but also as responsible citizens. This initiative stands as a testament to the power of sports to inspire, empower, and uplift communities.
Mr. Michael Ntow Ayeh, the Head of P.E & Sports at the GES, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the GES Management for FIFA’s invaluable support. He affirmed the commitment of the Service to put the footballs and the acquired technical knowledge to optimal use.
It is noteworthy that the Greater Accra Region has already received its share of 2,400 footballs after successfully training 29 District P.E & Sports Coordinators. The Eastern Region is next in line to benefit from this transformative project, as they eagerly await their footballs.
In essence, the FIFA Footballs for Schools Project in Ghana is not just about playing football; it is about building character, nurturing dreams, and fostering a brighter future for the youth of the nation.
