In an exciting development for the world of sports and education, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has embarked on a mission to strengthen the ties between football and learning in Ghana.
The renowned international football governing body is set to make a significant impact by training 50 Physical Education teachers and coach educators, handpicked from all 16 regions of the country. This transformative initiative was confirmed by none other than the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Eric Nkansah.
Taking to the GES social media platform, Dr. Eric Nkansah revealed that FIFA’s innovative program has a dual purpose: to enrich the educational landscape and to empower schoolchildren through the power of football. The program, aptly titled “Football for Schools,” aims to integrate vital life skills and competencies into the learning experience, using football as a dynamic tool.
The announcement followed a momentous meeting on August 9th, 2023, where Dr. Nkansah warmly received a delegation led by Madam Fatimata Sow Ep Sidibe, the Director of Football for Schools at FIFA. This meeting marked the official beginning of a collaboration set to revolutionize the way education and sports interact in the Ghanaian context.
Reflecting on the far-reaching implications of the “Football for Schools” initiative, Dr. Nkansah expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This is a great addition to what we are already doing in our schools, and I am confident that the program will go a long way to identify and nurture young talents from the school system.” The sentiment underscored the belief that integrating sports like football into education can foster holistic development among students, unearthing potential that might otherwise remain untapped.
Parallel to this endeavor, the Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with FIFA and with the endorsement of the Ministry of Education, has set the stage for the official launch of the “FIFA Football for Schools” project. This monumental event, scheduled from August 10th to August 12th, 2023, will witness the kickoff of an ambitious project aiming to cultivate and harness the potential of budding football talents within the school system.
Underpinning this project’s success is the training of selected Physical Education (PE) Teachers from every region of Ghana by seasoned FIFA Specialists, who will assume the role of trainee trainers. These expert trainers will subsequently transfer their knowledge to other PE Teachers within their respective regions.
