In a dramatic turn of events for thousands of affected graduates, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has begun reaching out to successful candidates from the controversial 2024 recruitment cycle. Following months of uncertainty, revoked appointments, and national outcry, GES has now started sending SMS messages and making direct phone calls to selected graduate teachers whose recruitment statuses are being reversed in their favor.

This outreach marks the beginning of a phased re-engagement process as GES finalizes the validation and selection of candidates eligible for official posting into the education system.

Background: From Mass Revocation to Hopeful Recall

The 2024 recruitment into the Ghana Education Service became a national flashpoint when approximately 39,000 graduate teachers and non-teaching staff were issued appointment letters—many without the necessary financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.

Following a new directive from the Office of the President dated February 10, 2025, the GES, under the leadership of Acting Director-General Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, revoked all such appointments that had not been processed onto the government payroll by the cutoff date. This impacted thousands of hopeful recruits, many of whom had already received official appointment letters.

Validation Exercise Launched to Clean Payroll

In response to the chaos, GES launched a nationwide validation exercise in March 2025, requiring all affected individuals to submit critical documents including:

  1. Appointment Letter
  2. Academic Certificate
  3. Licensure Certificate
  4. National Service Certificate

Regional three-member validation committees—comprising the Regional Human Resource Officer, Internal Auditor, and Accountant—were deployed to oversee the process.

GES emphasized that this step was essential to sanitize the payroll and ensure only properly vetted and financially cleared recruits would be absorbed into the system.

Minister Haruna Iddrisu Breaks Silence

During a highly publicized address to protesting graduate teachers at the Ministry of Education forecourt, Education Minister Hon. Haruna Iddrisu confirmed that the issuance of appointment letters to about 39,000 individuals was carried out without legitimate financial backing.

“The government may only be able to absorb 9,000, 11,000, or 12,000—but certainly not all 39,000,” he stated. He reassured affected individuals that only those who met the requirements and passed validation would be considered.

He also clarified that the current administration should not be blamed for the recruitment irregularities, which he described as misleading and unapproved actions taken under the previous government.

The Turning Point: SMS Notifications and Calls Begin

In a positive update confirmed by GESHub.org, GES has begun directly contacting validated graduates who made the final cut. These individuals are now receiving SMS messages and phone calls informing them of their successful validation and upcoming postings.

This communication is being rolled out in batches, and GES has urged those yet to be contacted to remain patient, as the process is ongoing. Affected graduates are advised to keep their phones active and regularly check official GES communication channels for updates.

What This Means for Graduates

For those who completed the validation process, this outreach is a major relief and a signal that their long wait may be over. However, it also marks the end of the line for individuals who were either not validated or failed to meet the requirements.

Graduates are encouraged to:

  • Ensure their documents were submitted during the validation window
  • Remain in contact with their regional education offices
  • Monitor phone calls and text messages from GES headquarters or regional offices

A Lesson in Governance and Due Process

This recruitment saga highlights the critical importance of financial clearance and procedural transparency in public sector employment. While many aspiring educators were caught in the political crossfire, the ongoing resolution process aims to rebuild trust in the recruitment system and ensure only qualified, budget-cleared individuals are posted.

Bottom Line: If you’re one of the affected graduates, watch out for an SMS or phone call from GES—you might just be part of the final batch being absorbed into Ghana’s education system.
