In a recent turn of events, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has refuted claims circulating in various media outlets about the reinstatement of eleven interdicted heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs).

The decision to interdict these school heads came after accusations of imposing unapproved fees, including house dues, books, calculators, admission process fees, and charges for printing slips, files, and hymn books on first-year SHS students.

The development unfolded after a closed-door meeting held in Accra, where representatives from the GES leadership, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the Conference of Assisted Heads of Senior High Schools (CHASS) gathered to address the concerns raised by GNAT and CHASS.

Thomas Musah, the General Secretary of GNAT, initially expressed gratitude for what seemed to be a positive response from the GES to reinstate the affected heads. However, in an update, he clarified that investigations into the allegations against the interdicted headteachers are still ongoing. He urged stakeholders and the public to disregard any false information regarding the reinstatement.

The list of interdicted headteachers includes prominent figures such as Mrs. Selina Anane Afoakwa of Kumasi Girls SHS, Mr. Nathaniel Asamoah of Asanteman SHS, Mr. Andrews Boateng of Kumasi Senior High Technical School, and Mr. Kwadwo Obeng-Appiah of Manso-Edubia SHS, among others.

The GES, in its initial decision to interdict these heads, cited various accusations related to the imposition of unapproved fees. The fees, allegedly imposed on first-year SHS students, encompassed house dues, books, calculators, admission process fees, and charges for printing slips, files, and hymn books.

The update from the GES management explicitly states that the investigations into the allegations against the interdicted heads are still ongoing. The management reassures all stakeholders and the public that the outcome of these investigations will be made known to everyone when completed.
