The Ghana Education Service (GES) has received financial clearance from the Ministry of Education for the recruitment of the 2022 batch of graduates from Colleges of Education. This announcement, made by Kwasi Kwarteng, the PRO for GES, marks an exciting moment in addressing the concerns raised by the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) regarding the delay in employment for newly qualified teachers.
Mr. Kwarteng took to his official Facebook page to share the news, stating, “The government has granted financial clearance to the Ghana Education Service for the recruitment of the 2022 batch of graduates from Colleges of Education.” This development comes as a relief to many aspiring educators who have completed their four years of study in College, undergone one year of national service, and successfully passed the Ghana teacher licensure examination, only to face unemployment.
The concerns raised by TTAG highlights the urgency of the situation. In their press release shared on Facebook, the association highlighted the unprecedented delay in the posting process, which has left many qualified teachers without employment for over five months. Traditionally, teacher trainees from Colleges of Education have been promptly posted following their completion of school. However, the prolonged delay this year has exacerbated the challenges faced by these aspiring educators.
Acknowledging the pressing need for action, TTAG respectfully called upon the Government of the Republic of Ghana, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, and all other relevant stakeholders to expedite the posting process for newly qualified teachers.
