In a recent development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a crucial update regarding the reporting date for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates who have just received their Senior High School (SHS) placements from the Ministry of Education.
Despite calls from Teacher Unions and the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, the GES has made it clear that the reporting date for these Form 1 SHS students will remain unchanged.
In a letter released on December 2, signed by Cassandra Twum, Head of the Public Relations Unit at GES, the directive is clear: students are expected to report to their respective schools on December 4, as indicated on their school placement forms.
This means that registration and orientation activities are slated to commence from December 4. The academic calendar further reveals that there will be a Christmas break starting on December 21, and classes will resume on January 3, 2024, continuing until March 5, 2024.
GES emphasizes the urgency for students who are yet to do their Self Placement to complete the process as quickly as possible. This is an important step to ensure a smooth start to the academic year and to avoid any disruptions in the implementation of the SHS academic calendar.
The GES extends gratitude to all stakeholders who have collaborated and supported the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) process up to this point. The Service recognizes the efforts made to streamline the placement process and is optimistic about the successful implementation of the academic calendar for SHS.
