In a major development that brings renewed hope to thousands of 2023 graduate teachers from public Colleges of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially submitted the full recruitment budget to cover all eligible graduates. This was confirmed during a high-level engagement between the leadership of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) and the Director-General of the GES, held on June 2, 2025.
According to a press release issued by TTAG on June 6, 2025, the meeting was led by TTAG President H.E. Razak Soale, who met with the Director-General of GES, Prof. Frank Kofi Davis, alongside key officials from the Directorate. These included the Head of Legal Affairs, Internal Auditor, Head of Public Relations, and the General Secretary of GES.
The most significant outcome from the meeting was the confirmation that GES has indeed prepared and submitted the full recruitment budget for all graduate teachers from the public Colleges of Education. This marks a major milestone in the ongoing efforts to secure employment for the 2023 batch of teacher trainees.
TTAG reports that the recruitment budget, after its preparation, was successfully defended and approved by both the Ministry of Finance and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education. However, the process is currently awaiting the final financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, which is necessary before GES can commence the actual recruitment and postings.
The Director-General was emphatic in his reassurance that recruitment will definitely happen this year, and he reaffirmed his commitment to a smooth and transparent process. This marks Prof. Davis’s first recruitment exercise since assuming office, and TTAG commended his openness and proactive efforts to address trainee concerns.
TTAG also urged all stakeholders—especially the Ministry of Finance—to expedite the clearance process so that the recruitment can commence without delay. In the meantime, they encouraged all 2023 graduates to remain calm and confident, promising to keep them updated and engaged throughout the process.
This development not only signals progress but also affirms the importance of collaboration between student bodies like TTAG and government institutions. As the education sector prepares for a new cohort of trained teachers, this budget submission represents a critical step toward strengthening the teaching workforce across the country.
