The Ghana Education Service (GES), in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has announced the commencement of monitoring visits to Senior High Schools (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) schools. This initiative aims to oversee the implementation of internal assessment practices introduced as part of the new SHS/SHTS/STEM curriculum for the 2024/2025 academic year.

According to an official letter issued by GES Headquarters on January 30, 2025, the monitoring visits will take place from February 10 to 14, 2025. These visits will focus on schools with Year 1 students, ensuring that internal assessment practices are effectively executed in line with the new curriculum.

The monitoring process will involve two representatives from both GES and WAEC, who will visit schools to engage with school management, Year 1 teachers, and students. Their primary goal is to assess how internal assessments are being conducted and to provide the necessary support where required. Insights gathered from these visits will be used to improve the overall assessment framework and enhance academic evaluation processes.

Regional Directors of Education have been requested to inform Heads of Schools about the upcoming visits to facilitate smooth implementation. For further clarification, Mr. Lawrence Dogbatse has been designated as the point of contact.

This initiative reflects GES and WAEC’s commitment to maintaining high educational standards and ensuring that internal assessments align with the reformed curriculum, ultimately improving learning outcomes for students in Ghana.
