The National Identification Authority (NIA) is the official body responsible for the issuance of the Ghana Card and other national identification services. The institution plays a very important role in Ghana’s digitalization agenda, ensuring that citizens and eligible residents have a secure and reliable means of identification.
As part of its service expansion, the NIA has established Premium Centres across various regions in Ghana. These centres provide identification services at a fee, as mandated by the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations, 2023 (L.I. 2481), approved by Parliament. While premium services come at a cost, first-time applicants can still register for their Ghana Card free of charge at NIA District Offices nationwide.
