The National Identification Authority has released a list detailing fourteen (14) mandatory uses of the Ghana Card.
According to the Authority, the National Identity Card issued to an individual shall be used for the following transactions where identification is required.
14 mandatory uses Of Ghana Card
- Application for and issuance of a passport
- Application for and issuance of a driver’s license
- Opening of individual or personal bank accounts
- Purchase of insurance policy
- Transactions pertaining to individuals in respect of pensions
- Transactions specified under the National Health Insurance Scheme
- Transactions that have Social Security implications
- Purchase, transfer, and registration of land by an individual or a connected transaction subject to the provision of other enactments
- Registration of voters
- Payment of taxes
- Registration of SIM Cards
- Applications for public or government services, facilities, approvals, permissions, or benefits
- Any other transaction which the Authority may determine and publish in the Gazette
- Consumer credit transactions
NIA noted that any organization that offers any of the services in respect of transaction listed under sub regulation [1] shall demand the presentation of an identity card from the individual concerned before providing the relevant services to the individual.
