The Ghana Education Service (GES) has recently unveiled the revised academic calendar for single-track Senior High Schools for the 2023/2024 academic year. This comprehensive guide will take you through the newly established reopening and vacation dates for single-track schools across the country.
1st Semester Reopening
According to the official revised calendar released by the GES, the 1st semester of the academic year will kick off for Form 2 and Form 3 students on November 1. However, Form 1 students will have a slightly delayed start, with their 1st semester session commencing on December 4.
1st Semester Vacation
For the 1st semester vacation, all Form 3 and Form 2 students will conclude their classes and leave for vacation on March 5, 2024. Meanwhile, Form 1 students will start their break a little later, on March 15, 2024. This means that these students will enjoy an extended vacation period, spanning almost two months, as schools wrap up the 1st semester on March 5 and March 15, respectively.
2nd Semester Reopening
Mark your calendars for May 3, 2024, as the official reopening date for the 2nd semester. On this day, Form 1, Form 2, and Form 3 students will return to school to commence their activities for the upcoming semester.
2nd Semester Vacation
The 2nd semester vacation for Form 2 and Form 1 students is set for August 28, 2024. However, Form 3 students will remain in school until they complete their West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers.
2023 WASSCE Date
It is essential to note that the WASSCE for all Senior High Schools in Ghana is scheduled to commence in August/September 2024.
These revised dates provide students, parents, and educators with a clear timeline for the 2023/2024 academic year in single-track Senior High Schools. As the academic year progresses, students will have ample time to prepare and make the most of their educational journey.
Stay updated with GES announcements and ensure you mark these dates on your calendar to ensure a successful and productive academic year for all single-track schools in Ghana.

The form3s had to come home on this vacation but all the students in Notre Dame both forms1s,2s and 3s came together, I think the GES must do something about this because is too much, they must close Notre Dame Girls senior high because the kids are suffering sometimes the GES might give the kids some vacation but the head mistress of the school won’t accept, sometimes the foods the government bring to them finish but the head mistress will use her own money to buy food for the kids to avoid them coming home this is against the law GES must do something about this.Thank you
In fact! Education is a mess this time. Nothing can be understood. So confusing. Form 2 under single track and Form 2 under double track seams to be confusing. I am not clear which is which. And end of semester is short than the break. Stay home period is longer than stay in school. Please explain why should be so.
Abaa now GES is trying to kill our children form 3 are about almost 8 to 9 months without vacation can’t you think learning too much can affect you because now I think our children are almost be thinking home now especially form 3 please minister of GES let’s the form 3 also rest small before they prepare for the incoming exams
Education in Ghana nowadays as change totally.
Please Minister let go back to terms better than semesters.
