Ghanaian graduates eagerly awaiting their postings under the Ghana Education Service (GES) are calling on the newly appointed Director-General, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, to expedite the recruitment process for those with ‘Pending for Consideration’ status. The recruitment portal, which has remained offline for weeks, has only fueled uncertainty among applicants, leaving many concerned about their fate in the teaching profession.

The ‘Pending for Consideration’ status has been a source of anxiety for numerous graduates who successfully applied for GES recruitment. While some applicants received their appointment letters in earlier batches, others were left in limbo with no clear indication of when they would be posted.

Adding to the frustration, the GES recruitment portal (gespromotions.gov.gh) has been inaccessible since December 2024, making it impossible for applicants to check their status or download appointment letters. The prolonged downtime, coupled with the leadership transition at GES, has only deepened the uncertainty surrounding the recruitment process.

With Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis now at the helm of GES, graduates are urging him to address the situation urgently and fast-track postings for those still awaiting confirmation.

Dr. Eric Nkansah’s Assurance Before His Exit

Before his removal as GES Director-General, Dr. Eric Nkansah had assured applicants that efforts were being made to secure clearance for those under consideration. In response to growing concerns, he stated:

“Kindly be patient as we secure clearance to recruit applicants pending for consideration.”

However, his sudden departure from office has left many wondering whether his promises will still be upheld under the new leadership.

With his exit and the appointment of Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, graduates are now looking to the new Director-General to follow through on the commitment and ensure that all qualified applicants receive their postings without further delay.

What’s Next for GES Recruitment?

As graduates push for clarity and action, the following key issues need urgent attention from Prof. Davis and the GES management team:

  1. Restoring the GES Recruitment Portal:
The first step in addressing the situation is fixing the recruitment portal, which has remained offline for several weeks. Without access to the platform, applicants cannot verify their status, download appointment letters, or receive updates on their recruitment.
  2. Securing Financial Clearance for Pending Applicants:
The recruitment process often depends on financial clearance from the government, which allows GES to officially employ and pay newly recruited teachers. Applicants are urging GES to fast-track this clearance process to enable them to start work.
  3. Providing a Timeline for Postings:
Transparency is key. Many applicants have expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding their status. A clear and official timeline from GES regarding the next phase of postings would go a long way in easing concerns.
  4. Ensuring Fairness in the Recruitment Process:
There have been growing calls for GES to prioritize fairness and meritocracy in the recruitment process. Applicants want to be assured that postings will be done transparently and in accordance with proper guidelines.

The appointment of Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis comes at a critical time, and graduates are hopeful that under his leadership, GES will address the backlog of unposted applicants and ensure a smooth recruitment process moving forward.
