Update on 2025 Recruitment & Postings: The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) is demanding urgent answers from the Government of Ghana over the stalled recruitment and posting of newly trained teachers — especially the 2022 backlog and the 2023 batch. Their frustration is boiling over, and rightly so.

It’s September 2025, and yet thousands of trained, licensed, and qualified teachers are still sitting at home jobless. Meanwhile, basic schools across the country are crying out for teachers. Classrooms are either empty or overcrowded, and learners are paying the price for a system that seems stuck in neutral.

The Reality on the Ground

Let’s be clear: these teacher trainees have done everything required — completed their education, passed their licensure exams, and waited patiently. But their reward? Silence, broken promises, and in some cases, over 10 months without pay for those who have already started teaching without official postings.

And the result? Many are taking up menial jobs to survive. Others are considering abandoning the profession altogether. Meanwhile, Ghana’s basic education system is deteriorating, not because there aren’t enough teachers, but because the system is failing to deploy them.

TTAG’s Key Demands

In a strongly worded release dated September 8th, 2025, TTAG outlined three non-negotiable demands to the Ministries of Education and Finance:

  1. Clarity Now: TTAG wants an immediate and transparent update on the recruitment and posting process for both the 2022 backlog and the 2023 cohort.
  2. Pay the Teachers: Those already in classrooms without pay must be sorted out immediately. Delaying their salaries while they serve the nation is both exploitative and disrespectful.
  3. Clear Timelines: No more vague responses. TTAG wants official timelines that can be communicated to all affected trainees so they can plan their lives.

TTAG’s Position Is Clear

The Association is not just complaining. It has acknowledged previous steps taken by the government — but enough is enough. If these issues remain unaddressed, TTAG warns it may be forced to take further action to defend the welfare of its members.

“We mean well — but our patience is not endless,” TTAG wrote.

Why This Matters for Ghana

Ghana cannot build a robust education system by abandoning its teachers before they even start. Thousands of unemployed teachers are ready to serve. There is no excuse for classrooms to be empty while trained professionals are at home with no income and no clarity.

This is no longer just a teacher trainee issue — it’s a national education crisis.

What Happens Next?

TTAG is urging all affected trainees, stakeholders, unions, and the general public to raise their voices and demand accountability. If you’re a trainee still waiting, don’t stay silent. If you’re a parent whose child is in a struggling public school, this affects you too.
