GES and Ministry of Education Fully Prepared
Following a series of high-level meetings between the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education, it is clear that both institutions are prepared to go ahead with the recruitment exercise.
The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to employing up to 60,000 staff into the GES. This pledge was not only made on the floor of Parliament but also reemphasized during a stakeholder meeting held on August 20, 2025. Further concerns were raised after the Minister of Finance, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, presented the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review. Notably, he made no mention of recruitment or employment initiatives for the remainder of the year.
Instead, he indicated that job creation and employment measures would be prioritised in the 2026 National Budget, scheduled for presentation on November 15, 2025. This strongly suggests that large-scale recruitment might not happen until next year.
The Reality Ahead of School Reopening
With basic schools across Ghana set to reopen on September 2, 2025, the prospect of recruiting new teachers before the start of the academic year looks increasingly unlikely.
The infrastructure, planning, and commitment are in place—but until the Ministry of Finance grants financial clearance, the process remains immobile.
