The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially responded to widespread claims circulating on social media and some traditional media platforms regarding an alleged “ongoing secret recruitment” and the sale of teaching appointment letters. According to GES, these claims are entirely false and misleading, and the Service has urged the public—especially diploma and graduate applicants—to disregard such information.

Background to the Issue

Management of the Ghana Education Service says its attention was drawn to a viral video and media discussions, particularly on platforms such as Adom FM, alleging that:

  • There is a secret recruitment exercise currently ongoing within GES, and
  • Some individuals are paying sums of up to GHS 25,000 to secure teaching appointments.

GES has categorically denied these allegations, stressing that they do not reflect the facts on the ground.

Official Position of GES

GES has made it clear that no secret recruitment exercise is taking place. The Service reiterated that recruitment into GES has always been free, open, and transparent, and this has not changed.

Management emphasized that:

  • GES does not charge any money for recruitment or posting.
  • Anyone demanding money in the name of facilitating GES recruitment is acting fraudulently.

Clarification on New Appointment Letters

GES further explained recent developments that may have contributed to public confusion. Following the extension of financial clearance in October 2025 for the onboarding of 2024 applicants whose earlier clearances had expired, the onboarding process was resumed.

As part of this process:

  • Some applicants were issued new appointment letters.
  • This was particularly necessary for individuals who were previously recruited with fake appointment letters, which made it impossible for them to be onboarded officially.
  • The issuance of these new letters was done free of charge, and no payments were involved.

Warning to the Public

GES has issued a strong warning to the general public, especially diploma and graduate applicants seeking teaching appointments. Anyone who:

  • Has been approached to pay money for recruitment, or
  • Has evidence of such illegal demands

is advised to report the individuals involved to the security agencies immediately.

Recruitment Procedures Remain Unchanged

The Service reaffirmed that its established recruitment procedures remain unchanged. When financial clearance is granted for any main recruitment exercise:

  • An official public announcement will be made.
  • All qualified candidates will be invited to apply.
  • The process will remain open, transparent, and free of charge.

Key Takeaway for Applicants

Diploma holders, graduates, and all prospective teachers are advised to rely only on official GES communications and to be cautious of individuals or groups promising recruitment in exchange for money.

GES continues to encourage applicants to stay informed through credible and official channels and to avoid falling victim to recruitment scams.
